Most hardware firewalls have the capability to connect to a fixed number of individual PCs, but larger corporate networks can be handled using business networking hardware. The mode of functioning of a hardware firewall is via the process of packet filtering that is basically the analysis of the data packets that are transferred. By analyzing the data packet addresses the firewall identifies the source and destination addresses in an attempt to determine whether they are the data to be received or sent. Once the firewall examines this header information, it can better judge if the data information is forwarded correctly or has been sent in error.
