All things being equal, search engines place a higher value on pages that have more links, since this is a sign of a worthy blog. This is actually how I got better results when I submit my blog to blog directories. The directory listings themselves don't actually generate more visitors. There is a bit of dispute about the proper number of blog directories to submit my blog to. Opinions range from the modest to the outlandish, with some people of the thinking that I should submit my blog to as many different blog directories as I could manage.
