Patch management best practice Reviewing the topic
The primary function of a security patch is to lessen the threat posed by a new form of malware. The more complicated the malware, the more complicated the security patch. The more complex computer networks often, and quite unintentionally, contain security holes that are ripe for exploitation by hackers, opening the system to attack. In the "old days," a computer operator used to receive his security patch via paper tape or punch card. He was expected to remove the outdated or damaged portion of the original tape or deck and "patch in" the replacement.
